I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.” ~ Bill Bryson
Hello there and welcome to my personal blog.
I’m Dionne, a 30-something born and raised in London but now live and work in sunny Malta.
This picturesque island is the main setting for many of my musings, adventures (and subsequent posts).
I fell in love with Malta on my first visit in 2012. And then I fell in love 😉 (he’s who I refer to when I say “we” ha!)
My motto is: If you like something you should at least try and that’s how I ended up here (that, blind optimism and possibly help through the stars aligning)
At the time, other than the azure waters completely enticing me, I didn’t know much else about the island. All I know is: I felt a great sense of peace whenever I visited and decided Malta was the one for me! What can I say… I took the plunge!
Expat life does have its up and downs not to mention its twists and turns. But doesn’t life? I’ve experienced it all the common expat complaints:
(Acute) loneliness, culture shock and discrimination but the good still outweighs the bad. I’ve also experienced phenomenal personal growth I quit smoking after how many years, befriended myself and am seemingly in my dream job now (not sure how ha!)
And… With all that said, I still believe I have the perfect place to explore. And this blog is my creative outlet to share everything about this beautiful island, as well as maybe the not so good things. (My history teacher would be so proud!)
P.S. I also unearth local hidden gems and offer travel tips.
Lovely to meet you
